The power of a split screen

Today’s Practice Insight: The power of a split screen!

After my last post, I wanted to share how I DO use technology to benefit me in the practice room! My iPad is a must when going into the practice room, and if you ever see me practicing without my top two apps both pulled up… no, you didn’t!

The feature I rely on the most is splitting the screen. To have my tuner/metronome (TE Tuner) on one side and my music (on ForScore) on the other makes it so much easier to take notes as I tune passages or work on tempi.

I rarely EVER practice just off the music. I’d go as far as to say that the only times I do play without the tuner pulled up is in run throughs, rehearsals, lessons, and concerts.

Having the tuner/metronome up at all times is a reminder to use them, it makes me aware of the resources that I have! Do you all also split your screen when practicing? What other cool things do you do on your iPad?

Disclaimer: what may work for me, may not work for everybody! That is the beauty of it, and one of the reasons why I am curious to see what y’all are doing out there. I am excited to try new things: what works for others, what has not worked. In short, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
